It’s Saturday night and you are preparing to speak on Sunday morning. You have a lesson planned, but you’re stuck needing a boost of “God-sight” to finish well. “God-sight” is “Insight from knowing God and hearing His voice.” Here are some key questions you can give yourself to infuse some life into your message.
Step on this journey and ask yourself these questions. Look into the mirror even and measure the intensity of your faith and understanding. If you are not encouraged in what you are about to say, why would anybody else be?
*What do I believe about God? – How does the character of God inspire the plans of God? And how does faith in your message change the atmosphere for your listeners so that they lean into the Word spoken and obey?
*What do I believe about the message I’m speaking? Am I listening to the call of God and the leaning of the Holy Spirit? How does the Word inspire others to action and move them toward maturity in Christ?
*What is the main thrust of the message? Is it clear? Or is there an undercurrent of confusion that keeps the message from hitting the heart? Where does the focus hit relationally? Upon heart life? The spirit realm of the inner man? Write down the main idea and keep saying this and repeating this until it becomes strong and clear.
*What do I believe about myself? How has God uniquely prepared me to encourage others? Am I walking in the upright confidence as a messenger of the King? Or am I letting the stress of the week spill out of my voice? Release any insecurities, anxieties, fears, and pains.
*What do I believe about LOVE? The greatest commandment in the Bible is to love God passionately (Matthew 22:37-39) and to love others, so how is your lesson an expression of Loving God well?
*What do I consider a win Sunday? What areas of the Word are bringing encouragement or challenge or refining or refreshing? What practical ways can the listener take the lesson and apply it to life?
*What gift am I giving to the listener? Are you providing hope or security? Or perhaps you’re giving vision to expand the horizons of your hearers? What insights are you passing along from the Lord?
Looking in the mirror before speaking is a helpful exercise. Who knows if you may find some food sticking out of your teeth or a rogue eyelash that distracts from your lovely countenance.
Moreover, looking into the “mirror” of your soul, you might find some other distractions that get in the way of truth. Surrender these to the Lord, and surely Jesus will wash you and empower you to reflect His presence and His plans.
